Payments Operator

We are looking for a highly accurate and detail-oriented Payment Operator to join our payment operations team.

This is a hands-on operational role responsible for the accurate, timely, and controlled execution of client payment instructions across banking and payment platforms. The successful candidate will have practical experience processing payments and will be comfortable working in an environment where accuracy, control, and accountability are critical.

Key Responsibilities

• Process domestic and international client payments accurately and within required timelines.

• Manually enter and execute payment instructions through banking and payment platforms.

• Verify all payment details prior to execution, including source account, beneficiary details, IBAN/account number, SWIFT/BIC, payment reference, amount, and currency.

• Ensure payments are executed from the correct client account and in accordance with authorised instructions.

• Process SEPA, SWIFT and multi-currency payments.

• Monitor transactions through execution, settlement, rejection, or return and investigate any payment issues promptly.

• Verify available balances and required internal approvals before releasing payments.

• Apply authorised FX rates, spreads and banking/payment fees accurately.

• Verify the amount converted and the final amount debited from the client's account.

• Maintain accurate records of FX rates, fees and transaction details.

• Perform post-execution checks to ensure transactions correspond exactly with approved payment instructions.

• Support daily payment and client account reconciliations.

• Maintain complete and traceable supporting documentation for all transactions.

• Monitor pending, rejected and returned payments and liaise with banking or payment partners where required.

• Complete end-of-day operational checks and escalate unresolved discrepancies.

Controls, Compliance & Risk

• Ensure payments have received all required internal and compliance approvals before execution.

• Follow established AML, sanctions, fraud-prevention and transaction-monitoring procedures.

• Escalate unclear, incomplete, inconsistent or unusual payment instructions before processing.

• Never override compliance holds, system warnings or internal controls without appropriate documented authorisation.

• Immediately report payment errors, discrepancies, suspected fraud or unauthorised activity.

• Ensure any payment correction follows authorised procedures and maintains a complete audit trail.

• Maintain strict confidentiality regarding client and transaction information.

What We're Looking For

• Previous hands-on experience in payment operations, payment processing, banking operations or banking back-office functions.

• Practical experience manually processing international payments.

• Good working knowledge of SWIFT, SEPA, IBANs, correspondent banking and multi-currency payments.

• Practical understanding of foreign exchange (FX), exchange-rate calculations and banking/payment fees.

• Understanding of AML, sanctions and payment-control requirements.

• Strong numerical and reconciliation skills.

• Exceptional attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.

• Ability to work effectively and accurately under time pressure.

• Strong sense of ownership, responsibility and operational discipline.

• Good written and spoken English.

Highly Desirable

Previous payment-processing experience within a digital bank, private bank, payment institution, EMI, fintech or similar financial-services environment.

What Success Looks Like

Every payment is executed exactly as authorised — from the correct account, in the correct currency, for the correct amount, to the correct beneficiary, using the correct FX rate and fees, with a complete and traceable record.

Accuracy, control and accountability are fundamental to this position.
